Emergency Shelter Grant Program

The Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG) Program is funded by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The program provides funding to local governments and private, nonprofit agencies to assist homeless persons in Tennessee. Program funds are available on an annual basis and are administered through a competitive process statewide. Eligible activities include: renovation and repair of eligible homeless shelters, operational expenses, support services to clients, and homeless prevention activities. The ESG Program requires a local match in an amount equal to ESG funds received. Application materials are available and conducted in the late fall each year.
