Jobs for College Graduates

The Department of Human Services offers a number of entry-level positions for applicants possessing a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. The Accountant/Auditor 1, Disability Claims Examiner 1, and Statistical Analyst 1 positions are only found in Davidson County. The Social Counselor 1 position is found throughout the state in many Tennessee counties, while the Eligibility Counselor 1 position is found in all Tennessee counties.

All five of these entry-level positions will require an applicant's completion of a State of Tennessee Employment Application along with participation in a written examination. Applicants must obtain a competitive score on a civil service employment register to receive further consideration. Employment applications for these positions are accepted year-round, even though there may not be an immediate job opening. Although job openings may occur at any time, the positions which have openings on a regular basis include Disability Claims Examiner 1 and Eligibility Counselor 1.

The Department also uses four entry-level positions at the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center located at Smyrna, Tennessee (Rutherford County). Applicants interested in these positions need to complete and submit a State of Tennessee Employment Application. There are three other entry-level positions found in the Department of Human Services for applicants possessing a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. The Child Care Program Evaluator 1 and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor 1 positions are found throughout the state and are assigned to approximately one half of Tennessee's 95 counties. Applicants appointed to these positions may serve a multi-county geographic area. The Information Systems Associate position is in urban areas such as Davidson, Hamilton, Knox, Madison, Maury, Putnam, Shelby and Washington counties. Applicants interested in these positions need to complete and submit a State of Tennessee Employment Application.
