Jobs for High School Graduates

The Department of Human Services offers a number of entry-level positions for applicants with a high school diploma or equivalent. The Clerk 2 position is found in large urban areas such as Davidson County, Hamilton County, Knox County and Shelby County. The Computer Operator 1 and Word Processing Operator positions are found almost exclusively in Davidson County. The Secretary position is found in every Tennessee county. All four of these entry-level positions will require an applicant's completion of a State of Tennessee Employment Application along with participation in a written examination. Applicants must obtain a competitive score on a civil service employment register to receive further consideration. Employment applications for these positions are accepted year-round, even though there may not be an immediate job opening. Although job openings may occur at any time, the Secretary position has the most job openings.

In addition to the positions listed above, the Department also uses three unique entry-level positions at a residential facility located at Smyrna, Tennessee (Rutherford County). Applicants interested in these positions need to complete and submit a State of Tennessee Employment Application.
