I use AOL (or
Netscape, Firefox, NetZero...some browser other than Internet
Explorer), and I can't get the calculator to work. What should
I do?
You can
download the application using any browser or internet service.
However, the application itself only works in the Internet Explorer
browser. The good news is that your machine should still have
Internet Explorer installed on it, even if you use a different
browser for the internet.
You do not have to
be connected to the internet to open/run the program...
To use Internet Explorer
to open the Calculator, right-click on "ISCalculator.htm" and select
"Open With." If you see "Internet Explorer" listed, select it.
Otherwise, select "Choose Program."

When you see the list of
programs, scroll down to "Internet Explorer" and select. The
calculator should now open in the Internet Explorer browser.

When I open the Calculator, there is a small
yellow sign in the lower left corner and it says "errors on page."
What does that mean?
The little yellow sign means you are experiencing a Javascript
error, most likely due to your version of Internet Explorer.
Visit Microsoft's Update page at the following address and update
your version of Internet Explorer to version 6:
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/default.aspx?ln=en-us
Also, try installing the Sun Java Runtime, called: J2SE v
1.4.2_06 JRE. It can be downloaded at no charge from:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html

(3)
When I open the Calculator, I see the buttons at
the top, but nothing seems to work...why is this?
You are attempting to open the Calculator in a browser other than
Internet Explorer. To open it in Internet Explorer follow
these steps:
Right-click
on "ISCalculator.htm" and select "Open With." If you see
"Internet Explorer" listed, select it. Otherwise, select
"Choose Program."

When you see the list of
programs, scroll down to "Internet Explorer" and select. The
calculator should now open in the Internet Explorer browser.

I have some other problem running the
Calculator...
Most issues with running
the Calculator will arise from outdated version of Internet
Explorer. If you are experiencing difficulties, and you are
not using the most current version of Internet Explorer, please
visit Microsoft's Update page and update your Internet Explorer:
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/default.aspx?ln=en-us
Also, try installing the Sun Java Runtime, called: J2SE v
1.4.2_06 JRE. It can be downloaded at no charge from:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html

(5)
Will the Calculator run on a Macintosh
computer?
Yes! We now have a
Mac-friendly version of the Excel worksheets. To use this
version, you must have Excel for MacOs installed on your computer.
Click on "DOWNLOAD SPREADSHEET - Mac Version" to obtain a copy of
the program.

(6) I
clicked on one of the steps, and now it won't let me go to the next
one...why?
Some pieces of
information are so important to the calculation of child support,
that the application won't let you move to another step without
providing them. The Help Text window at the bottom of the page
should inform you as to which pieces of required information are
missing. Check there first...

Also, the tool works best
if filled out starting with Step 1 and proceeding through the other
steps in order. Some later steps require that you have filled
in the information on earlier steps.
If you get really stuck,
you can always click "Reset" and start over from the beginning...

(7) Can
I go back after looking at the worksheets in Step 10 and change some
values?
Absolutely. Once you are finished, you can click "Reset" and
clear all information and start over, OR you can simply click on one
of the steps to go back and change some of the values you entered.
It is suggested that if
you are going to go back and change values, you still go through the
steps in order...

(8) The
amount of PCSO in Step 16 doesn't seem to add up from the amounts in
Step 15...am I doing something wrong?
This could be due to a couple of
valid reasons.
First of all, in a Split Parenting case,
the PCSO (Line 16) will be the smaller value from Line 15 subtracted
from the larger value on Line 15.
Secondly,
when the dollar amounts in Line 15
are over a certain amount (for a specific number of children) the
amounts get capped. This can cause a smaller amount to appear
in Line 16 than is expected. Please consult the Guidelines
document for more details.

(9)
Someone else using the Calculator came up with a different result
than I did...how can that happen?
Assuming the exact same information was entered into both
Calculators, it is possible that you are running different versions.
Occasionally the program will be updated, which is why it is
essential that users frequently visit the "Downloads" page to check
for new versions.

(10)
How can I share the Calculator with someone else (they don't have an
internet connection)?
The calculator (in its self-extractor "ISCalcZip.exe") is small
enough to save to a floppy diskette. You can save the file to
disk and deliver the disk to someone else. Similarly, the file
may also be sent as an email attachment.

(11)
When
will the Excel version be available?
The Excel spreadsheet for use in calculating child support will be
available in January, 2005.

(12)
Can I save my completed worksheet?
You can save the worksheets and all entered data by clicking on
"Click To Save Current Values" on Step 10. A dialog box
will pop up asking you where you would like to save the file, and
what you would like to name it. NOTE: The filename
must end with either ".htm" or ".html" for the save function to
work. Then, click "Save." This file may be opened at a
later date, and the values may still be changed. If the
function does not work, make certain that you have the most current
version of Internet Explorer, and the most current version of the
Calculator, and that ".htm" or ".html" is entered at the end of the
filename.
(13)
When I print my completed worksheets
they don't look right...
Before printing, be sure to click on the button labeled "Printer
Friendly Version *** To return, click on the worksheet's title"
which appears on Step 10. Then, you may print the worksheets
using either the printer icon on the toolbar or the "File -> Print"
menu selection. If the worksheets still print improperly,
check your print settings under the "File -> Page Setup" menu
option.
