American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The act is a nationwide effort to create jobs, jumpstart growth and transform our economy to compete in the 21st century. The compromise package of $789 billion will create or save 3.5 million U.S. jobs over the next two years. Jobs created will be in a range of industries from clean energy to health care, with over 90% in the private sector.
The State of Tennessee is projected to receive approximately $4.5 billion over the next two years to help speed the economic recovery, create and save jobs, and provide services to those affected by these tough times. DHS will be overseeing funds in several areas: Child Care, Food Stamps, Weatherization, Community Service Block Grant (CSBG), and Vocational Rehabilitation.
