Senior
Community Employment Representatives
Now Accessible At Local Tennessee Career Centers Grant
SCSEP
Reps Help Seniors Begin Again
NASHVILLE
- Tennessee seniors can now receive specialized employment services at
local Tennessee Career Centers. Six Senior Community Service Employment
Program representatives will spend one day a week at Tennessee Career
Centers from Memphis to Johnson City to help seniors with job training,
job placement and personal assistance.
"The
Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Senior Community
Service Employment Program representatives provide the right approach
for Tennessee's seniors," said Commissioner James Neeley. "They
will be on hand at our friendly Tennessee Career Centers to help seniors
get back into the workforce and train for new positions. It has been our
goal to provide these much needed services at our convenient one-stop
career centers to this often overlooked job seeker."
The Senior
Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), funded under Title V of
the Older Americans Act, serves persons with low incomes who are 55 years
old or over and have poor employment prospects. The program has two purposes:
to provide useful community services and to foster individual economic
self sufficiency through training and job placement in unsubsidized jobs.
Services
provided include:
- up to
20 hours a week of part-time employment in community service
- assignments
job training and related educational opportunities
- opportunities
for placement into unsubsidized jobs
