Managed Care Services

Managed Care Services is responsible for providing guidance on state alcohol and drug policy and practice within a managed care environment and for assisting contracted service providers with operating, both fiscally and programmatically, within a managed care model. It is committed to a statewide, state-of-the-art, publicly-funded treatment system which is comprehensive and accountable and provides the best possible client outcomes.

Managed Care Services works hand-in-hand with partners including TennCare, the Behavioral Health Organizations (BHO), and the Department of Health http://www.tennessee.gov/health/ so that the critical role of substance abuse services in the health care delivery system can be fully addressed.

Other initiatives of this section include sponsoring training in use of the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) and the American Society of Addiction Medicine Patient Placement Criteria (ASAM PPC) and in obtaining BHO contracts, developing a BHO appeals process for contracted providers, and enhancing the Division’s data collection system.
