Regional Mental Health Institutes TDMHDD operates 5 Regional Mental Health Institutes (RMHIs). Lakeshore Mental Health Institute (Knoxville), Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute (Chattanooga) and Memphis Mental Health Institute provide in-patient psychiatric services for adults; Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute (Nashville) and Western Mental Health Institute (Bolivar) provide in-patient psychiatric services for both adults and children/youth. Most RMHI admissions are on an emergency involuntary basis, with a variety of court-ordered inpatient evaluation and treatment services also provided. The RMHIs provide psychiatric services based upon the demonstrated and emerging best practices of each clinical discipline. A number of accrediting and regulatory agencies survey each RMHI’s care, practice and standards of safety, including the Joint Commission, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and the TDMHDD Office of Licensure. The ability of each RMHI to provide quality inpatient psychiatric services is evident by continuous accreditation, certification, and licensure by these agencies. Any concerns regarding patient care and safety at a RMHI should first be directed to the RMHI Chief Executive Officer (see contact information below). If concerns cannot be resolved through the RMHI management, please contact the TDMHDD by either calling 1-800-560-5767 or by e-mailing oca.mhdd@state.tn.us. If concerns are not adequately resolved by either the RMHI management or TDMHDD, the public may contact the Joint Commission to report any concerns or register complaints by calling 1-800-994-6610, emailing complaint@jcaho.org or accessing the Joint Commission's web site at www.jointcommission.org/GeneralPublic/Complaint/default.htm
