Memphis Mental
Health Institute Patient Rights Advocacy ProgramMMHI recognizes and respects the personal rights and dignity of all patients. Informing patients of their fundamental human, civil, constitutional, and statutory rights helps to ensure protection and support for the individual rights of each patient. Patients have the right to respectful care, privacy, confidentiality, to be treated without discrimination, the right to give informed consent, to make advanced directives, to see their medical records, to take part in discharge planning, to file complaints and to talk to a patient advocate. It is important that all applicants and recipients of services know about their rights under the Title VI Law and employees of MMHI understand what the law requires. MMHI strives to maintain adherence to all guidelines set forth in Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 with regard to patient services. Memphis Mental Health Institute ensures that patients’ rights are maintained through a formal mechanism in which to impartially process and review any issues regarding patient rights. All patients are informed of their rights and the availability of the patient advocate to handle any questions or complaints. The facility provides an effective mechanism for handling patient/family grievances as an important part of providing quality care and service to all patients. Presentation of a grievance will not, in itself, serve
to compromise a patient’s future access to care |
