MMHI’s Clinical Department
includes physicians and nurse practitioners providing mental health
and medical treatment for all those admitted. The physicians offer
leadership to the treatment teams in order to provide an interdisciplinary
approach to providing the most individualized treatment possible.
Physician coverage is provided 24 hours per day, seven days a week.
-
The Psychology Department provides
various types of services for the facility. Ph.D. psychologists complete
patient assessments, develop behavior plans, perform forensic evaluations,
lead groups, and provide an array of services that are specific to
the needs of the patients they serve. The Psychology Department is
also involved in the training of police officers and other mental
health care professionals from around the nation in crisis prevention
in the community. They have played an active role in the training
process of the Memphis Police Department's Crisis Intervention Team
(CIT) model.
-
The Nursing Department consists
of over 170 staff who provide quality patient care. Nurses at MMHI
play a key role in the provision of patient care and treatment. The
Nursing Department strives for excellence in care and is actively
pursuing Magnet Status which includes strengthening
Nurse Leaders, increasing nurse autonomy, improving collegial Nurse-Physician
and interdisciplinary relationships, and much more.
As a teaching facility, continuing education is key at MMHI. The Nursing
Department provides continuing education for their staff and encourages
staff to pursue advancement in education. The department has three
Clinical Nurse Specialists along with nurse educators to assist staff
with patient care and educational needs.
-
The Social Services Department
provides social services, groups, and one-on-one counseling sessions
to meet the individual needs of patients. The development of discharge
