Adjunctive Therapy

The goal of Adjunctive Therapy is to provide recreation group activities, as well as educational groups to meet the needs of the patients physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. Therapeutic recreation offered:

Recreation: To promote good mental health. It’s important to take time out to play or engage in a favorite hobby.

Therapy: Improve self-esteem, increase interactions with others, reduce stress, develop healthy coping techniques, improve physical abilities.

Education: To teach and enhance leisure education/daily living skill that patients can integrate into his/her daily life to reduce or eliminate the effect of his/her illness/disability.

Currently the Adjunctive Therapy Department provides a seven day a week Recreation/Educational program in conjunction with The Learning Center. We have 11 Recreational Therapists and 1 Licensed Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA).

Recreational groups/activities offered: Relaxation Group, Self Expression/Art, Gym, Sports Talk, Exercise, Self Expression through music, Verbal games, and monthly parties on the units.

Our Recreational Therapist serve as a group facilitator in the educational component of our program, which offer groups such as: Women’s Health, Anger Management, Problem Solving, Safe Living/First Aid, Connecting with self/others, Current Events, Men’s Classes, Creative Writing/Journalism, Stress Management, Express needs appropriately, and Positive Thinking. The Recreational Therapist will provide each patient with a leisure packet with activities he/she can get involved in within their community to promote effective use of leisure time.
