Peer Support Center Transportation
Program
Service Description
The purpose of this program is to provide ancillary transportation funding
to peer support centers so that mental health consumers can have a reliable
mode of transportation to and from the peer support center.
Agencies that receive funding to operate peer support centers also
receive transportation funding. Funds can be utilized to purchase a
van for the peer support center, to provide funds to cover van expenses
and repairs, or to purchase bus passes for consumers.
Why do we fund it?
Most consumers who attend peer support centers do not have a means to
get to the peer support center. They need the peer support center staff
to pick them up to bring them to the center. Accessible transportation
is necessary for people with disabilities to go to work, get an education,
receive medical care, and to have an active, inclusive role in society.
Whom does it serve?
The program serves adults who are diagnosed with mental illness and
co-occurring disorders and who attend peer support centers
What are the outcomes?
The impact has been that individuals are able to attend peer support
centers who otherwise would not be able to attend. According to the
most recent peer support center satisfaction survey completed, 80% of
the consumers surveyed get to the peer support center through transportation
provided by the peer support center.
Is there research, evidence-based practice,
best practice, or literature to support the service?
Transportation is a means to allow consumers to attend and participate
in evidence-based practice services and programs and programs/services
that are seen as a best practice. Please see review of Peer Support
Center for further information.
