    Eligibility

    QUESTION: Are persons diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness eligible for Behavioral Health Safety Net of TN services if they have Medicare and are losing TennCare Standard?

    ANSWER: Yes, assuming they meet all other eligibility requirements. Medicare will be the primary payor and then the Behavioral Health Safety Net of TN can be rendered in accordance to the contract for services not covered by Medicare.


    QUESTION: Is an individual who has been identified as eligible for the Behavioral Health Safety Net of TN still eligible for services even if they are now covered through their spouse’s group health insurance?

    ANSWER: If the individual has mental health services in their private insurance policy, then they are not eligible for the BHSN of TN.


    QUESTION: Does Behavioral Health Safety Net of TN coverage preclude Medicare eligibility?

    ANSWER: No, the Behavioral Health Safety Net of TN was designed to allow dual eligibles who are disenrolled to have medication coverage until Medicare Part D goes into effect January 1, 2006.

    QUESTION: Do consumers who are registering for Behavioral Health Safety Net of TN services have to register with the CMHA in their county or can they choose one in another county?

    ANSWER: They can sign up with any participating Community Mental Health Agency and be seen at any satellite of the CMHA. In order to change to another CMHA, a new registration application must be completed by the receiving CMHA.
