Safety Net Service Descriptions

Assessment, Evaluation, Diagnostic, and Therapeutic Interventions – These services are required to determine the need for mental health treatment and to map the course of treatment. These activities include: psychiatric/psychological evaluation, priority population assessments, psychiatric diagnostic interview examinations, and therapeutic interventions provided by mental health professionals.

Case Management- Case management is defined as care coordination for the purpose of linking individuals who, without such assistance, would not be able to access needed safety net services. Case management is delivered through face-to-face encounters with individuals. Case management is tied to access for provision of follow-up activities related to the provision of safety net services such as individual/group therapy, psychiatric medication management, pharmacy assistance and coordination, labs related to medication management, community transitional support, and promotes community tenure. Case management is based on a current assessment and clinical considerations of individuals who, without such service, would not be able to access needed safety net services.

Psychiatric Medication Management – Medication management is a clinical service focused on the need for and use of psychiatric medication, including agent selection and adjustments. This service includes administering injectable medications and drawing blood samples to be sent for laboratory evaluation.

Labs Related to Medication Management – Laboratory processing and reporting on blood samples to assure the safe and effective use of psychiatric medications.

Pharmacy Assistance and Coordination – Services provided directly to the disenrollee to individually assist in securing medications at a reduced price, or no cost, through a manufacturer-sponsored program or other pharmacy assistance program. Also includes coordination with disenrollee, prescriber, manufacturer, and pharmacy benefit manager for initial pharmacy assistance applications, emergency and periodic medication changes, and monitoring and submission of data necessary for monitoring and reporting.
