The Division of Mental Health funds the following services for Children and Youth and their families in Tennessee.

Mental Health Association of Middle Tennessee - click here to go to their site.ERASING THE STIGMA: Erase the Stigma is a statewide educational program that promotes understanding of mental health and wellness by providing basic information and education about mental illnesses, the warning signs and symptoms in regards to children and youth with serious emotional disturbance, their needs and the needs of their families.

Peer Power in middle schools.  Click here to go to Centerstone website.PEER POWER: PEER POWER is in middle schools (grades 4-8) in one or more of the following Middle Tennessee counties; Bedford, Cheatham, Coffee, Davidson, Dickson, Franklin, Giles, Hickman, Houston, Humphreys, Lawrence, Lewis, Lincoln, Marhsall, Maury, Montogomery, Moore, Perry, Robertson, Stewart, Sumner, Trousdale, Wayne, The goal of the project is to instill resiliency in children in order to prevent violent behaviors in children.

Renewal House - Nashville logoRENEWAL HOUSE: Renewal House provides services to addicted mothers and their children. Renewal House fosters healing, resiliency and continuing recovery to enhance family health. The Department of Mental Health and Development Disabilities provides funding for early intervention and prevention services to children at risk of serious emotional disturbances (SED) or substance abuse, who reside at Renewal House with their mothers.

VISIONS FOR TOMORROW: Funding is provided to NAMI of Tennessee. Visions for Tomorrow is an education course for primary caregivers of children with brain disorders. Caregivers may be parents, extended family or fosters parents.

EDUCATION AND SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN OF ADULTS WITH MENTAL ILLNESS: Funding is provided to the Mental Health Association of East Tennessee for education/support groups for children of severely and persistently mentally ill adults throughout the State. The support groups are groups that offer emotional support, education, and information to children of adults with mental illness. Technical assistance is also provided to agencies serving mentally ill adults and children.

MHDD Early childhood intervention.  Click here to visit Tennessee Voices for Children website.EARLY CHILDHOOD INTERVENTION: The Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities provides funding to Tennessee Voices for Children to provide mental health training and technical assistance services to benefit staff members and children associated with child care, Head Start, and early childhood centers across the state.

FAMILY SUPPORT AND ADVOCACY: Funding is provided to Tennessee Voices for Children to provide support, education, advocacy and referral to families of children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems throughout the entire state.

JASON FOUNDATION: The Jason Foundation is an organization dedicated to increasing awareness and educating folks about youth suicide through a school-based program. The program is based on the concept of the Triangle of Prevention, which consists of programs that speaks to youth, parents, and teachers/educators on risk factors associated with youth suicide and the importance of recognizing these factors. The program has been designed for the middle and high schools. The goal of the department is to place this program in all middle and high schools in the state of Tennessee over the next three years. Developmental Disabilities provides funding to provide outreach case management for homeless families to identify children and youth who may be Seriously Emotionally Disturbed (SED) or who may be at risk of SED, assist the parent in securing needed mental health services for their children, and link the parents with other services needed to keep the family intact and healthy. Funding is provided to five mental health centers throughout the state.

AMERICORPS/RIP PARTNERSHIP: The Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities receives funding from the Tennessee Commission on National and Community Service with the department providing matching funds for National Service AmeriCorps Members to provide direct service activities to the Regional Intervention Program (RIP) that include:

(1) providing in-community direct support for high risk families enrolled in RIP
(2) serving as behavior management models for newly enrolled families in RIP classrooms
(3) providing a variety of general RIP program support services, and
(4) providing in school social skills tutoring and support for children with behavioral and developmental disorders enrolled in mainstream preschool and kindergarten classrooms.

MuleTown Family Network LogoMule Town Family Network: Located in Columbia, TN, the Mule Town Family Network is a collaboration of local agencies, schools and youth working in partnership to provide System of Care for children and youth with serious emotional disturbances (SED) and their families who reside in Maury County, Tennessee. Led by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Development Disabilities, Centerstone and Tennessee Voices for Children, the Mule Town Family Network integrates and coordinates services to allow children with SED to function more effectively at home, in school and within their community.
