Teen Suicide Between 1952 and 1995, the incidence of suicide among adolescents and young adults nearly tripled. And, more teenagers and young adults die from suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, influenza, and chronic lung disease, combined (according to the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention). In Tennessee, 45 young people between ages 10-19, lost their lives to suicide in 2000 (Tennessee Department of Health). Teen Suicide Contacts: The Jason Foundation, Inc.
(JFI) Founded in October 1997, JFI is one of a few national organizations whose sole purpose is to address the "silent epidemic" of youth suicide through awareness and prevention strategies. Stemming from the loss of Clark Flatt's youngest son, the JFI attempts to reduce the number of youth suicides and suicide attempts by presenting educational seminars and resource programs to teens, parents, teachers and other youth workers. Since its inception, over 184,000 individuals have participated in one or more of the JFI's programs, and JFI programs are now in use in 47 states and three foreign countries. Yellow
