Tennessee Suicide Prevention Strategies

Teen Suicide

Between 1952 and 1995, the incidence of suicide among adolescents and young adults nearly tripled. And, more teenagers and young adults die from suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, influenza, and chronic lung disease, combined (according to the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention).

In Tennessee, 45 young people between ages 10-19, lost their lives to suicide in 2000 (Tennessee Department of Health).
