Volunteer Needs in the CommunityRequests for Volunteers from our Mental Health Partners around the State General Agency Information Callers in crisis, those who need emotional support, or those wanting assistance with basic needs such as food, housing, and affordable health services speak with trained crisis counselors and information specialists. Our counselors help callers identify their most pressing needs, explore options, form action plans, set goals, and/or agree to accept referrals. A Crisis Center Professional Ladder encourages telephone counselors at three levels: Crisis Associate, Crisis Specialist, and Senior Crisis Specialist. Student Placement Volunteer & Student Placement Opportunities Since 1968 the Crisis Center has been providing life saving services to our community. Our volunteers continue to be a crucial part of the Crisis Center. Without the support of community members like you, we would not be able to provide such important services for people in need. Contact Scott Ridgway if you can help with Administrative needs: filing, answer phones, working on data base, newsletter, making copies and so forth. Whitehaven Southwest Mental Health
Center Recreation Volunteers: Teach arts and crafts to clients living in supervised residential programs, emergency shelter and group homes. Recreation Volunteers: Schedule and accompany clients on recreational outings, church and medical appointments. Tutors: Tutor school-age children in various subjects. Tutors: Teach computer skills to adults and children with mental illness. Office Assistants: File notes, arrange charts and other office duties.
