    Former strategy consultant brings 20-plus years of experience in multiple fields to the office

    NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and First Lady Crissy Haslam today announced Theresa Carl as president of the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation (GBBF).

    The former Strategy Consultant at Solutions Simplified brings more than 20 years of experience in fundraising, relationship building, resource connecting and creative marketing to GBBF. She will focus on developing strategies for promoting and strengthening the statewide Imagination Library program, established in 2004 in each of Tennessee’s 95 counties.

    MEMPHIS- Governor and First Lady Haslam visited Benjamin Hooks Library today to announce and celebrate the results of an evaluation on the effectiveness of the Shelby County Books from Birth program. The Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation partners with the Imagination Library to promote school readiness and a love of learning by offering free, age-appropriate books mailed directly to a child’s home once a month, from birth until age five.

  • UnitedHealthcare Supports Early Childhood Reading in Shelby County with Donation to Governor's Books from Birth Foundation

    MEMPHIS- UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, the state’s largest Medicaid organization, today joined Memphis City Mayor A.C. Wharton and Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell to announce a two-year, $250,000 pledge to the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation, which will support Shelby County Books from Birth (a local affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library), providing a free book to children under the age of five, regardless of family income.

The funds will be used for Shelby County Books from Birth to deliver free, age appropriate books to children under the age of five enrolled in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

    Bredesen has proclaimed September 19-25 Imagination Library Week in Tennessee and local Imagination Library affiliates in all 95 counties are bringing awareness to the free book program with the goal of boosting statewide enrollment. Nissan has been a generous sponsor of the program, giving more than half a million dollars to local Imagination Libraries where their employees live and work in Williamson, Davidson, Rutherford and Franklin counties.

    NASHVILLE The Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library are celebrating a significant milestone: more than 10 million free books have been delivered to Tennessee children in all 95 counties since the program began in 2004, developing their vocabulary, school readiness and a love of learning.
     
    The milestone comes on the heels of the announcement that Tennessee is one of just two states awarded funding in the first round of President Obama’s Race to the Top competition, recognizing our state’s forward thinking in education reform and changing the way the nation views Tennessee’s commitment to education. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a part of that commitment, giving all Tennessee children access to free books and encouraging a lifetime of learning.
