Please note: Only current periods can be filed using the business tax online filing website. To file a transitional or prior period return, please file using a paper tax return.
Please follow these steps to file your business tax return and make a payment using Revenue's website.
1. Locate your business tax account number(s).
Electronically filing and paying your business tax return will require that you enter your business tax account number(s). If you have previously filed business tax with the Department of Revenue, the account number can be found at the top of your paper return.
If you are unsure whether you have an existing business tax account number, please call the Department of Revenue's call center at (615) 253-0600 (Nashville-area and out-of-state) or (800) 342-1003 (toll-free inside Tennessee).
2. Obtain a user name and password.
Once you have located your account number(s), the next step is to obtain a user name and password. This will allow you to electronically file and pay while protecting the privacy of the information you provide. To begin, go to the TN.gov Account Management website.
For a detailed step-by-step video on how to register for your user name and password, click here. Detailed instructions on registering for electronic filing are also available in our electronic filing guide.
Please note: If you currently file sales and use tax online, you can add the county and/or city business tax service to your TN.gov account and use the same user name and password for both applications. Click here to select County and/or City Business Tax Service to add this service to your current user name and password.
3. File your return.
Once you have obtained your user name and password, you are ready to file and make payments through the Business Tax Online Filing website. Instructions, tips and answers to frequently asked questions about electronic filing are also available on this site.
