A communications dispatcher is responsible for receiving law enforcement, disaster, and weather information through various means such as telephone, teletype, and two way-radio, and transmitting the information to the appropriate person and/or agency.
High school diploma or GED equivalent; qualifying driver's license examining or other acceptable public contact work may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Applicants must also meet certain qualifications as stated in Tennessee Code Annotated 58-2-202, in addition to passing an examination testing an applicants auditory perception.
All applicants must take a written examination administered by the Department of Personnel. The test consists of eighty-five (85) multiple choice questions.
