
Greta Dajani serves as Deputy Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Safety. Appointed to the position in March 2006, Dajani’s more than three decades of experience and leadership in the public sector has been instrumental in advancing the mission of the agency’s Driver Services Division.
Since joining the department, she has overseen the establishment and staffing for seven new driver license service centers, the implementation of credit card processing at all center locations, and the expansion of reinstatement services from three offices to more than 20 locations statewide. Additionally, Dajani has guided the enhancement of the department’s training program and the execution of the state’s REAL ID plans.
Previously, Dajani served as Director of the Food Stamp Program with the Department of Human Services, where she was instrumental in implementing the program in counties across Tennessee. She also successfully promoted a state law which brought the program to all counties, making Tennessee one of the first states in the nation to have a statewide food stamp program.
During her 14-year tenure as Food Stamp Director, Dajani was honored on the national level with the prestigious Howard L. Russell Memorial Merit Award. This honor is given by the American Public Welfare Association in recognition of important contributions to the development of public welfare policies, programs and services.
Dajani also spent several years at the Metro Development and Housing Administration in Nashville where she was Director of General Services. In that role, she supervised the agency’s budget, procurement, grant administration, personnel, training, quality control for public housing and the emergency food program for Davidson County.
Dajani is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and is a native of Coffee County. She is married and has three children.
