In Tennessee, there were 18 fatal crashes resulting in 20 deaths, yielding a fatality rate of one death per three hours.

Single Vehicle Crashes:        10
Multiple Vehicle Crashes:       8
Alcohol Related Crashes:       9 (45%)

Vehicle Occupants Killed:    8

  • Of the eight vehicle occupants killed, six (75%) were not wearing safety restraints.
  • Of the six unrestrained, four (66%) were ejected from the vehicle.
  • No child passengers requiring child restraint devices were killed.

Motorcyclists:              10 (all wearing a helmet)
ATV:                                 1 (not wearing a helmet)

LOWEST DEATHS

In 2002, five people were killed in traffic crashes in Tennessee during a 78-hour Memorial Day holiday period, yielding a fatality rate of one death per 15.0 hours and 36 minutes.


The 2006 Memorial Day holiday period will begin 6 p.m. Friday, May 26, and end 11:59 pm Monday, May 29. This will be a 78-hour holiday.
