- Commercial Vehicle Enforcement
The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division inspects commercial vehicles and driver logs, weighs commercial vehicles, and patrols highways with a focus on truck traffic violations.
- Forfeitures and Seizures
Information on property seized for possession of narcotics, illegal or prescription, and vehicles seized for driving on a driver’s license which has been revoked for DUI violations.
- Handgun Carry Permits
In October of 1996, the Department of Safety began issuing handgun carry permits pursuant to Public Chapter 905. Prior to this change, handgun carry permits were issued by local sheriff's offices. Since October 1996, the Department of Safety has issued more than 339,000 handgun carry permits.
- Inspectional Services Bureau
Inspectional Services Bureau (ISB) and Internal Investigations Unit (IIU).
- Protective Services Bureau
The Protective Services Division (PSD) was established May 2012 and is one of the most unique Divisions within the THP.
- Safety Education
The Safety Education division conducts a wide range of activities aimed at saving lives and reducing injuries on Tennessee’s roads.
- Special Investigations Bureau
The Special Investigations Bureau consists of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT).
- Special Ops
The Special Operations Unit consists of four specialized sections: the Aviation section, Tactical/Bomb Squad, K-9 section and Governors Task Force on Marijuana Eradication.
- Tennessee Highway Patrol Honor Guard
The Tennessee Highway Patrol Honor Guard was established in 1997 by Colonel Jerry Scott.
- Training Center
The Training Center is responsible for providing diverse educational opportunities to commissioned and non-commissioned personnel across the state, hosting special events, and organizing and training for the Trooper Cadet Schools.
