By Jordan

By Sands, White
AN ACT To designate a certain bridge in Maury County as the "John A. Ammons Memorial Bridge".
WHEREAS, It is fitting that the elected representatives of the State of Tennessee should name certain highways and bridges to honor those exemplary citizens who, during their lifetimes, contributed immeasurably to the growth and prosperity of their respective communities; and
WHEREAS, John A. Ammons of the Knob Creek community in Maury County was most assuredly one such remarkable public servant who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for his family and his fellow citizens and their progeny; and
WHEREAS, John A. Ammons and his wife, Lora, moved to the Knob Creek community in 1924 after purchasing a farm on Knob Creek Road; and
WHEREAS, Thereafter, Mr. Ammons was a lifelong resident of the Knob Creek community and Maury County; and
WHEREAS, The very epitome of the concerned citizen and good neighbor, Mr. Ammons was always eager to lend a helping hand and sympathetic ear to those people to whom life had been unkind; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ammons was as honest as the day is long and was widely respected and revered as a friend, neighbor and community leader; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Ammons' happy marriage produced ten fine children, all of whom worked and lived for many years in Maury County; and
WHEREAS, Today, John Ammons' only living son, Gordon Ammons, still resides in the Knob Creek community; and
WHEREAS, The Department of Transportation is presently constructing a new State Route 7 through Maury County; and
WHEREAS, The new State Route 7 features a bridge over Knob Creek, near the site of Mr. Ammons' farm and residence; and
WHEREAS, Because the bridge is so close to Mr. John A. Ammons' home, the Maury County Commission has requested that such bridge be named to honor Mr. Ammons' bountiful life of purpose and commitment; and
WHEREAS, This General Assembly most heartily concurs with this excellent proposal; now, therefore,
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the bridge that spans Knob Creek on State Route 7 in Maury County is hereby designated as the "John A. Ammons Memorial Bridge" to commemorate this worthy gentleman's numerous valuable contributions to the community he loved so dearly.
SECTION 2. The Department of Transportation is directed to erect suitable signs or to affix suitable markers designating such bridge as the "John A. Ammons Memorial Bridge".
SECTION 3. The erection of such signs or markers shall be within the guidelines prescribed by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
