AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 55-4-249, relative to "Helping Schools" special license plates for motor vehicles.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 55-4-249, is amended in subdivision (d)(1)(A) by inserting the following language after the first sentence:
The owners or lessees of motor vehicles who obtain special plates pursuant to this section may designate that the proceeds from such fees shall be allocated to a particular named school. The county clerk shall remit such proceeds to the local education agency operating such named school and the local school board shall allocate such proceeds for the benefit of the named school and shall make such funds available to the school. Any undesignated proceeds from such fees shall be allocated as provided in this section.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect on July 1, 1998, the public welfare requiring it.
