AN ACT To amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 10, Chapter 7 and Title 41, relative to private prison contractors and public records.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 41, Chapter 24, Part 1Error! Bookmark not defined., is amended by adding the following new section:

Section___. (a) The records and other documents concerning any inmate who is sentenced to the custody of the Department of Correction and is being housed in a prison or facility operated by a private prison contractor shall be public records to the same extent such records are public if the inmate is being housed in a Department of Correction facility.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
