AN ACT To amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 6-2-201, to authorize any municipality having a population of not less than seven hundred (700) nor more than seven hundred five (705) according to the 1990 federal census or any subsequent federal census to install and maintain a traffic control signal within its corporate limits.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 6-2-201(16), is amended by adding the following language:

This subsection may not be construed to prohibit a municipality with a population of not less than seven hundred (700) nor more than seven hundred five (705) according to the 1990 federal census or any subsequent federal census from installing and maintaining a traffic control signal within its corporate limits, and any such municipality is expressly so authorized; provided, however, no device shall be installed to control traffic on a state highway without the approval of the Commissioner of Transportation.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.

Pursuant to Article III, Section 18, of the Constitution of the State of Tennessee, the Governor had Senate Bill No. 3407 in his possession longer than ten (10) days, so therefore the bill becomes law without the Governor's signature.
