AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 63-14-103; Section 63-14-104; Section 63-14-106; Section 63-14-109 and Section 63-14-111, relative to continuing education, disciplinary action and apprenticeship training for dispensing opticians.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 63-14-103, is amended in subsection (a)(1) by inserting the words "or the equivalent amount of time under the supervision of such licensed professionals of another state which has dispensing opticianry licensure criteria at least as strict as Tennessee" between the words and punctuation "years", and "shall" in the first sentence and deleting the last sentence of that subsection.

SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 63-14-103 is further amended in subsection (f) by inserting the language "or the equivalent amount of time under the supervision of such licensed professionals of another state which has dispensing opticianry licensure criteria at least as strict as Tennessee" between the words "Tennessee" and "and practicing".

SECTION 3. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 63-14-104(a), is amended in the second sentence by deleting the language "to revoke any" and by substituting instead the language "to revoke or otherwise discipline any person holding a".

SECTION 4. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 63-14-106, is amended in subsection (a) by deleting the words and punctuation "; provided, that such licensee has submitted with his application for renewal of his certificate" from the first sentence and by substituting instead the words and punctuation ". Every licensed dispensing optician must, on or before December 31 of each year, submit".

SECTION 5. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 63-14-106(a)(6), is amended by inserting the words "for which disciplinary action pursuant to Section 63-14-111(a) may be taken" between the words and punctuation "chapter;" and "and".

SECTION 6. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 63-14-111(a), is amended in the first sentence by inserting the words "or otherwise discipline" between the word "of" and the words "any dispensing optician".

SECTION 7. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 63-14-109, is amended by removing all references to "treasurer".

SECTION 8. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 63-14-109(a)(3), is amended by deleting such subdivision in its entirety.

SECTION 9. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
