AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 16, Chapter 15, relative to jurisdiction of Courts of General Sessions.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 16-15-501(d)(1), is amended by deleting the words and figure "ten thousand dollars ($10,000)" and by substituting instead the words and figure "fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000)".

SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 16-15-501(d)(2), is amended by deleting the words, figures and symbols "fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000)" and by substituting instead the following:

twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000)

SECTION 3. The provisions of this act shall not apply in any county having a population of not less than two hundred eighty-five thousand (285,000) nor more than two hundred eighty-six thousand (286,000), according to the 1990 Federal Census or any subsequent Federal Census.

SECTION 4. If any provision of this act or the application thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of the act which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to that end the provisions of this act are declared to be severable.

SECTION 5. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
