AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-5-709, relative to employing substitute teachers.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-5-709(a), is amended by deleting the last sentence in its entirety and by substituting instead the following sentence:

All substitute teachers shall be employed by the Director of Schools and paid by the Board of Education of the school system in which substitute teachers are used.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 1997, the public welfare requiring it.
