Job Training

The Council has been
charged with evaluating job training programs in Tennessee
to determine whether they are helping women obtain better jobs. The Council
created a Job Training Task Force in 2001 to review the various job training
programs within state government, primarily the Department of Human Services
– Families First Program. Upon review, the Task Force presented these
recommendations to the Commissioners and/or staff of the following departments:
Human Services, Economic and Community Development and Labor and Workforce
Development. Since that time, the Task Force has continued its analysis of
job training programs, focusing on the “one-stop” Career Centers
located throughout the state. The Task Force also tailored its research on
high demand and nontraditional jobs for women. Below is a summary of the Task
Force’s work on these issues. A complete job training report will be
published by November 2004.
