| Growth
Policy in Tennessee
To
paraphrase a recent report by the Southern
Environmental Law Center, Tennessee is blessed with abundant
riches--breathtaking natural beauty, scenic rural landscapes,
productive pastures and cropland, vibrant communities that range
from historic small towns to thriving metropolises, and a rich
natural, cultural and historic heritage. This blend of resources
makes the region an attractive place to live, work and visit.
Yet
the accelerating growth experienced in many areas of the state
is exacting a toll on open space and farmland, commuters, air
and water quality and local governments' ability to meet the needs
of a growing population. The links on this page are intended to
help citizens and decision makers understand, anticipate and deal
with the adverse effects of growth by guiding it to ensure that
a stronger economy does not come at the expense of communities,
taxpayers and the environment. |
