Former Sheriff’s Deputy Nabbed in TBI Theft, Misconduct Case

KNOXVILLE – Special Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have obtained indictments for a former Scott County Sheriff’s Department deputy accused of misconduct.

At the request of 8th District Attorney General Jared Effler, TBI Special Agents began investigating Cody Scott Yancey on October 16, 2014. During the course of the investigation, Agents developed information that on several occasions between September 22nd and October 14th, Yancey made illegal entry into his department’s temporary evidence storage and removed multiple pieces of drug evidence. The investigation further revealed Yancey changed locks on the evidence storage box on two occasions and illegally entered detectives’ offices. The department subsequently terminated Yancey’s employment.

Today, the Scott County Grand Jury returned indictments for the 25-year-old Helenwood man, charging him with three counts of Burglary, one count of Theft under $500, one count of Possession of Burglary Tools, one count of Official Misconduct, one count of Tampering with Evidence, two counts of Attempted Tampering with Evidence, and two counts of Vandalism under $500. This afternoon, he was booked into the Scott County Jail on $10,000 bond.
