Former Patient, Surgical Assistant Nabbed in TBI Prescription Drug Case

CHATTANOOGA – Special Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have obtained indictments for a former patient and a former employee of a Cookeville medical office, accused of fraudulently obtaining prescription medications.

On October 6, 2014, TBI Special Agents began investigating an incident involving Timothy Preston Porter, a patient at Family Foot Center in Cookeville. During the course of the investigation, Agents developed information that Porter continued to receive prescription medications, even though the physician previously released him from care. Investigators later developed information that Cora Elise Wyatt, a surgical assistant at the physician’s office, started a relationship with Porter and electronically prescribed or called in several prescriptions for him to pharmacies in Livingston without the physician’s consent or knowledge.

On May 26th, the Overton County Grand Jury returned indictments for Porter, 35, of Rickman, and Wyatt, 45, of Cookeville, charging both with six counts of Obtaining/Attempting to Obtain a Controlled Substance by Fraud. Both were subsequently booked into the Overton County Jail and released after each posted $50,000 bond. At the time of this release, pictures of both subjects were not available.
