Tennessee Commission on Children and YouthJuvenile Justice FundingThe commission awards grants to agencies for delinquency prevention and to ensure that youth who commit offenses receive appropriate placements and services. A list of grants awarded is also available. In 2008 the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth devoted some of its Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act Federal Formula Grant funds to a Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) Special Emphasis Grant program. Funds are available for projects that promote greater accountability in Tennessee’s juvenile justice system and for juveniles who commit criminal offenses. Applications (available here) will be accepted for new projects up to $80,000.00 maximum. The Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act also includes a Title V to promote collaboration within communities to develop delinquency prevention strategies. Title V funds may only be given to general units of local government but, to be considered for funding, a community must demonstrate collaboration. Governments may contract with other agencies for services.
