TEMA FLASH REPORT #1 – West Tennessee Flooding and Severe Weather

HIGHLIGHTS

• The State Emergency Operations Center in Nashville is activated to support local requests and monitor the ongoing flooding situation in West Tennessee.
• Requests for assistance are being fulfilled for local response operations.
• Emergency Service Coordinators (ESCs) from TDOT, THP, TN Department of Human Resources, and more are monitoring the situation and standing by to provide assistance to local jurisdictions.

CURRENT SITUATION

Heavy rainfall has caused dangerous flooding in West Tennessee. Primary impacted counties include Obion, Gibson, Weakley, Crockett, and Greene counties. NWS Morristown preliminary confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in Roane county.

TEMA is coordinating with state and local partners to fulfill resource request and provide assistance.

THP

• THP continues to provide flood response assistance with traffic control, evacuation support, and other law enforcement responsibilities.

SHELTERS

• A shelter has opened to support flood evacuees.

TDOT

• TDOT is continuing to monitor road conditions across the state. Current road closures include:
  • SR 431, SR 216, SR 184, SR 189, and I-40 exit ramp 80A

PROTECTIVE ACTIONS/KEY MESSAGES

• Refrain from driving to keep available streets and roads clear for emergency personnel.
• Continue to monitor radio and television broadcasts for weather information and instructions.
• Do not attempt to cross flooded roads or walkways. Turn around, don’t drown.
• Take photos of any damages and use caution when handling debris.

FORECAST

Memphis: High of 89 and partly cloudy with an overnight low of 77.

Nashville: High of 81 and mostly cloudy with an overnight low of 69.

Knoxville: High of 85 and fair with an overnight low of 66.

Chattanooga: High of 82 and cloudy with an overnight low of 70.
