    If you need any help with TennCare, call the Family Assistance Service Center for free.
    Their number is 1-866-311-4287. In Nashville, call 743-2000.

     

    You can call them if you need help to:

     

    • Apply for TennCare.
    • Report a change such as a new address or change in jobs or income.
    • Ask a question.
    • Set up or change an appointment with the Department of Human Services (DHS).
    • File an appeal about getting or keeping TennCare.

     

    If you use a TTY or TDD machine, call 1-800-772-7647. In Nashville, call 313-9240.
    A TTY machine will answer. Use this number only if you have a TTY machine.

     

    Other places to call for help with TennCare:

    • Do you have questions about Medicare for people over age 65 or disabled?

      • Call Tennessee’s State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP).
        Their number is 1-877-801-0044.

     

     

    Reporting changes

     

    Tell DHS about changes to your address, family size, or job.

    State law says you must tell DHS about changes that may affect your TennCare.

    If you have TennCare Medicaid, you must report these changes within 10 days of the change.

    If you have TennCare Standard, you must report these changes within 30 days of the change.

     

    Call DHS right away if:

     

    • You move.
    • You change jobs.
    • Your family size changes.
    • Your income changes.
    • You get insurance or can get insurance through your job or a family member’s job.

     

    AND, you must give DHS the proof they need to make the change. DHS will tell you the kinds of proof they need. Do you need the phone number to your local DHS office? Go to Local Office Locator Or, you can call the Family Assistance Service Center for free at 1-866-311-4287.

     

    Do you get SSI?

     

    If so, you must tell the Social Security Administration about your changes too! Do you need the phone number to your local SSA office? Find your local SSA office.

     

    Or, check the blue pages in your local phone book.

     

    "Keeping TennCare"

     

    You must renew your TennCare every year. When it’s time for you to renew, you’ll get a letter from TennCare. Included with the letter will be pages you must complete and return to DHS. The letter will tell you when your pages are due to DHS. DHS will use the information you give them to see if you can keep TennCare.
