Academic Common Market Limitations and Restrictions

The following states are members of the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) which is a cooperative among 15 southern states. The Academic Common Market (ACM) only applies to these states (with some limitations as noted below).

LIMITATIONS OF ACM INSTITUTIONAL ACCESS

Graduate Level Participation Only

  • Florida
  • North Carolina
  • Texas

Institutions Which Do Not Participate

  • James Madison University (VA)
  • University of Texas, Austin (TX)
  • University of Virginia

Institutions Which Participate at Graduate Level Only

  • Georgia State University
  • Clemson University (SC)
  • College of William and Mary (VA)
  • Virginia Commonwealth University

Other Restrictions

  • Mississippi will not accept access to concentrations and will not send their residents into a concentrations only program.
  • South Carolina limits the eligibility of its residents participating in ACM to full-time status only.
  • Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University engineering students cannot be in the ACM until after they have completed the general education courses and been admitted to a major.
  • University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa requires undergraduate students to maintain a 2.5 grade point average and graduate students to a 3.0 grade point average to remain eligible for ACM benefits.
  • West Virginia Technology students in Printing Management are required to have a two year degree in printing management for admission.
  • Auburn University does not participate at the graduate level. Furthermore, Auburn University restricts access to junior/senior level students only.
  • It is important to note that institutions may otherwise limit access to the ACM. Please check with the institution in which you are interested to make sure you know its particular requirements.
