(STOP) Student Tobacco Outreach Prevention Program

The Tennessee Higher Education Commission coordinates two programs, GEAR UP TN Program and the STOP (Student Tobacco Outreach Prevention) Program for the benefit of youth and their families in the same nine Tennessee counties: Campbell, Cocke, Grundy, Hardeman, Johnson, Lake, Meigs, Union, and Wayne. While these two programs are distinctly separate in their funding sources and in their administration structure, they work side by side in promoting educational attainment and better health choices for students in these counties. The goal of GEAR UP TN is to increase the number of students in these counties who complete high school and participate in post secondary education. The goal of the STOP tobacco use prevention and cessation program is to decrease the use of tobacco products by students and their families in the counties served. The following outline illustrates the similarity in organizational structure of the two programs while clearly denoting differences in funding sources.
