Project Title: Index of the Confederate cemetery notebook Internship/Volunteer Opportunity: The Public Services section is looking for an interested volunteer or intern to create an index from our Confederate cemetery notebook. The notebook was produced on a typewriter decades before computers. It includes a Table of Contents listing nineteen Tennessee Confederate cemeteries followed by the listings of burials by cemetery in varying styles of content. The data entry of this information will be done in Microsoft Access, therefore, a working knowledge of this program is required as well as basic computer skills, attention to detail, and a high level of accuracy in data entry. Time Commitment: This internship or volunteer project is a project of approximately one month working at least 10 hours per week. Project Title: Index of MF 1521 - Case Files of Applications from Former Confederates for Presidential Pardons (Amnesty Papers), 1865-1867 Description of Work: The Public Services section is looking for interested volunteers or interns to create a computer file from the microfilmed rolls of the name index to pardon applications. This is a simple task of direct data entry from microfilm into a Microsoft Word table. The project requires the ability to read and look at microfilm for extended periods of time, attention to detail, a high level of accuracy in data entry, basic computer literacy, and experience with Microsoft Word. Project Title: Index of Revolutionary War Soldiers' Land Grants Description of Work: The Public Services section is looking for interested volunteers or interns to create an index for the Revolutionary War Soldier’s Land Grants. This is a simple task of direct data entry from microfilm into a Microsoft Word table. The project requires the ability to read 19th Century handwriting, the ability to read and look at microfilm for extended periods of time, attention to detail, a high level of accuracy in data entry, basic computer literacy, and experience with Microsoft Word. Time Commitment: This internship or volunteer project is a project of approximately one year working at least 10 hours per week. Index to RG 25, TN Prison Records, 1870-1900

Project Title: Create an index to the Tennessee Prison Records 1870-1900(?) RG 25 Description of Work: The Public Services section is looking for interested volunteers or interns to index the continuation of, Tennessee convicts: early records of the State Penitentiary. Successful applicants will enter the information into a database template and/or proof data already entered. This project requires the ability the ability to read 19th Century handwriting, to read and look at microfilm for extended periods of time, attention to detail, a high level of accuracy in data entry, basic computer literacy, and experience with Microsoft Word. Time Commitment: This internship or volunteer project is a long term project of approximately 6 months to a year, working at least 4 to 10 hours per week. Project Title: Index of RG 3, Board of Pension Examiners Card Files Description of Work: The Public Services section is looking for interested volunteers or interns to create an index from Record Group 3, Board of Pension Examiners card files, which includes the death date for Confederate soldiers. The project requires the ability to read and look at microfilm for extended periods of time, attention to detail, a high level of accuracy in data entry, basic computer literacy, and experience with Microsoft Word or Access. Project Title: TDOT Negative Index Description of Work: The Public Services section is looking for interested volunteers or interns to create a preliminary index from the information that is on each negative slip thus making this new collection usable for Public Services archivists until it is processed. (Currently they are organized only by date – not location.) The data entry of this information will be in Microsoft Access, therefore, this task requires attention to detail, a high level of accuracy in data entry, basic computer skills, and a working knowledge of Access. The project requires the ability to read 19th Century handwriting, the ability to read and look at microfilm for extended periods of time, attention to detail, a high level of accuracy in data entry, basic computer literacy, and experience with Microsoft Word or Access. This project requires the ability to physically stand on concrete floors for extended time periods, attention to detail, and a high level of accuracy in re-labeling the cassettes. This project requires the ability to physically stand on concrete floors for extended periods of time, attention to detail, and a high level of accuracy in filing organization. Time Commitment: This internship or volunteer project is a long term project of approximately 1 year working at least 10 hours per week. Project Title: Create and apply new spine labels to books in the South Reading Room
Description of Work: The Public Services section is looking for interested volunteers or interns to create the county code labels and adhere them to the spine of the books. This project requires attention to detail and the ability to physically lift books from shelves, label, and return to a shelf of varying heights. Time Commitment: This internship or volunteer project is a short term project of approximately three months working at least 10 hours per week. Project Title: Indexing county vital records Description of Work: The Public Services section is looking for interested volunteers or interns to index the extant Tennessee county birth and death records for 1881-1882. Successful applicants will enter the information into a database template and/or proof data already entered. The final product will be added to TSLA’s Research & Collections website for public research. Time Commitment: This internship or volunteer project is a short term project of approximately three months working at least 10 hours per week. Project currently underway
