The Public Services Section of the Tennessee State Library and Archives is responsible for assisting researchers who wish to use the collections of the State Library and Archives. Trained staff assist visitors in the use of finding aids, including card and computer catalogs, computer databases, manuscripts registers, and inventories of microfilm and photographs. Public Services staff assists patrons in person, by telephone, by mail and by e-mail. Genealogists, historians, lawyers, and state government employees are among those most often served.

The records at TSLA are open to the public, and you are welcome to come in to search the records yourself and make your own copies. The Public Services Section of TSLA is open Monday though Saturday 8AM-6PM CST (excluding state & federal holidays). Additional information about the library (including directions, parking and holiday hours) can be found on our Web site at Visitor Information.

The guides and indexes listed on the left side of this page will give you an idea of the materials we hold. A number of the records (such as early death certificates) have searchable online indexes. The link SERVICES BY MAIL and the HOW DO I FIND button (above) give instructions for locating the most frequently requested items & records.
