The Tennessee State Library and Archives has indexed personal names appearing in the Acts of Tennessee, 1796-1850. You can search the Index to Names to see if a particular individual is listed in the acts.
Many Acts of the legislature were passed in response to petitions which had been presented by a citizen or citizens. In some cases, TSLA will have the original petition pertaining to a specific act. If you would like us to search the petition index (only a rough index, not comprehensive) you may request a search by post or by e-mail. We can accept only one such search request at a time. If a petition is found we will notify you. The microfilmed petitions are also available on interlibrary loan.
ORDERING INFORMATION AND FEES:
- There is a $5 fee to photocopy an Act. Our staff will copy up to three Acts at one time (up to ten pages) for the $5 fee. The $5 fee is not refundable. Payment in advance by check, money order or credit card is required. - There is a $20 fee to photocopy a legislative petition. Up to twenty pages of photocopies can be mailed for the $20 fee. If we find more than four pages of information, we will notify you and ask you to send additional funds for the remaining pages. The $20 fee is not refundable.
