Northeast Correctional Complex Celebrates 15TH Anniversary

MOUNTAIN CITY, Tenn. - Tennessee Department of Correction officials will celebrate the 15th Anniversary of Northeast Correctional Complex on Thursday, January 26, 2006. The anniversary celebration will be held in the visitation gallery of the main compound starting at 10 a.m. EST.

Featured speakers include TDOC Commissioner George Little, Warden Howard Carlton, Johnson County Mayor Dick Grayson and Mountain City Mayor Harvey Burniston. Approximately 60 employees who began working at the prison when it opened 15 years ago will be recognized with special certificates for their service. In addition, the staff will honor seven prison employees for their military service in Iraq.

Northeast Correctional Complex officially opened in March 1991. It is a time-building institution with a maximum security designation, but also houses inmates of other custody levels. The facility has an operating capacity of 1,819 inmates, of which 300 inmates are located at the minimum security annex site in Johnson County and another 180 inmates, who are within ten years of their eligible release date, are housed in Carter County.

Northeast Correctional Complex has four industries, three of which are operated by TRICOR. The data plant employs approximately 50 inmates, the printing plant employs 25 inmates, and the sewing plant employs 50 inmates. The fourth industry is a private joint venture with the company Martech/Miller with approximately 30 inmates involved in this industry that helps recycle toner cartridges for printers.

Northeast Correctional Complex has a staff of approximately 542 men and women responsible for safeguarding the community by supervising male offenders.
