NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance (TDCI) proudly announces that TDCI Captive Insurance Section Director Belinda Fortman has been named to Captive Review magazine’s Power 50, the magazine’s annual list of the 50 most influential captive insurance professionals from around the world.

A nationally recognized captive insurance leader, Fortman joined TDCI in June of 2020 after leading her own captive management firm. Since joining TDCI, Fortman has overseen Tennessee’s growing reputation as a first-choice domicile for companies looking to establish a captive insurance company. Tennessee’s captive premium volume topped $1.6 billion in 2020 while the number of active captives in Tennessee increased to 146 at the end of 2020. Today, over 750 risk-bearing entities call Tennessee home.

“I heartily congratulate Belinda on this well-deserved professional honor,” said TDCI Commissioner Carter Lawrence. “Her inclusion in the Power 50 list demonstrates to the rest of the world that Tennessee has one of the brightest stars in the captive insurance industry helping strengthen the Volunteer State as a top domicile in the world for captives.”

The Power 50 is an annual list created by Captive Review magazine that showcases the captive industry’s most influential professionals from the previous year as voted on by captive insurance professionals and the public. A captive insurance company (commonly called a “captive”) represents an option for many corporations and groups wanting to take financial control and manage their risks by underwriting their own insurance.

“I am humbled and honored to be included on this list with so many captive insurance leaders whom I respect and am proud to call colleagues,” said Fortman. “I want to thank the voters and my team at TDCI. Additionally, I want to congratulate my fellow captive insurance professionals on the Power 50 list.”
