Description This is an instructor course specifically designed to prepare the graduating student the ability to teach Single Officer Response to Active Shooter/Killer courses. During the period of this instruction, the student will receive an overview of active shooter history and response. The module will cover the history of active shooter situations and law enforcement responses, tactics, and skills necessary for proper contingency planning. This includes but is not limited to active killer/shooter vs. barricaded subjects, weapons manipulation, single and multiple officer responses, Tactical Emergency Casualty Care, room entry techniques, breaching techniques, explosive hazards, approaching a crisis site, threat identification, link-up tactics, and post-shooting issues. The student will demonstrate skills and tactics learned in force-on-force scenarios. The student will teach back and demonstrate their ability to instruct law enforcement officers on single officer response to active shooter/killer incidents. This course includes 8-hours of live firearms training.

Length 40 hours
Prerequisites TN POST certified officer who has completed a TN POST certified Instructor Development or equivalent course. The student should have completed at least 16-hours of a recognized Basic Active Shooter training course, such as ALERRT, FLETC, or a basic police school that provided such training. A Firearms Instructor, SWAT, and/or Close-Quarters Battle (CQB) certification is suggested, but not required.
Materials

Personal protective equipment (Full-face head gear provided by instructors) & groin protection (student provided). Students should bring duty weapon with 3 magazines, duty patrol rifle with 3 magazines, duty belt, flashlight(s), and uniform. Student should bring pen, highlighter, and notetaking material. A laptop computer to work on teach backs and hydration (water) is also suggested. Students are also required to provide 250 rounds of practice ammunition for their duty handgun, and 150 rounds of ammunition for their shoulder fired weapon (shotgun/rifle).

Other Notes

Student will be provided with lecture, hands-on, and scenario-based training throughout the week. Students should dress in training clothing that can soiled. Pants are required, no shorts. Long sleeve shirts are recommended. This course has force-on-force scenarios that are physically demanding. This also includes Simunitions and Airsoft for the force-on-force training.

This course has a PASS/FAIL evaluation to understand and teach back the following:

   -  Weapons Handling (Practical/Range)
   -  Entry Techniques (Practical)
   -  Tactical Movement (Practical)
   -  Single Officer Response to Active Shooter/Killer (Scenario)
   -  Medical Assessments

A final assessment of the above with be conducted for each student. A PASS is required. A multiple-choice test from the lecture is also given, requiring a 80% or better. A course critique will also be given to provide feedback to evaluate the program.
