State Energy Office (SEO)

The U.S. Department of Energy’s State Energy Program (SEP) provides funding and technical assistance to states, territories, and the District of Columbia to enhance energy security, advance state-led energy initiatives, and maximize the benefits of decreasing energy waste. TDEC’s Office of Energy Programs (OEP) serves as the Governor-designated State Energy Office (SEO) for the State of Tennessee.

OEP has three primary SEP goals:

1. Reduce energy consumption and improve energy efficiency and energy management across the residential, commercial, industrial, public, and transportation sectors;
2. Support technology transfer and commercialization activities that promote a cleaner environment and stronger economy; and
3. Increase Tennessee's preparedness for disruptions related to the State's energy resources, specifically transportation fuels and heating fuels.

OEP also stays abreast of national and state-level energy activities through participation in the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO). NASEO is a non-profit association for governor-designated energy officials from each of the 56 states and territories. NASEO facilitates peer learning among state energy officials, serves as a resource for and about state energy offices, and advocates for the interests of state energy offices to Congress and federal agencies.
