The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Training Center located in Nashville, Tennessee, was established in March 1997. The Training Center campus consists of classrooms, dormitories, administration offices, a dining facility, fitness center/gym, TIMS track, a simunition shoot house, and a use of force/de-escalation simulator. The Training Center offers a variety of classes to commissioned and non-commissioned employees, hosts special events and ceremonies, and coordinates all required and specialized firearms training for the department’s commissioned employees as well as retired commissioned members. The Training Center is Tennessee Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (POST) certified for its commissioned officers and is internationally CALEA accredited.
The Training Center has hosted the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC) for over two decades. This prestigious 10-week executive leadership course offers high level training for organization leaders in the law enforcement arena. The course classes are taught by instructors from Northwestern University, and students travel to the Training Center from across the United States to attend.
Trooper Cadet Training Academy
The Trooper Cadet Training Academy prepares cadets for a life of public service to the State of Tennessee as a member of the Tennessee Highway Patrol. All cadet training is coordinated and conducted by members of the Training Center staff and other highly skilled adjunct instructors. While attending the Training Academy, Trooper Cadets are required to remain on campus Sunday night through Friday afternoon and are allowed to travel home every weekend. Trooper Cadets receive over 900 hours of instruction in topics ranging from human relations, patrol procedures, civil and criminal law, firearms, de-escalation, mental health, emergency vehicle operations, crash investigation, and criminal interdiction. Upon graduation, Trooper Cadets advance to the field training program where they work alongside a Field Training Trooper who provides on-the-job training. Throughout cadet and field training, an emphasis is placed on members always representing the core values and high standards of the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.)
THP is highly active in D.A.R.E. -- the international program that gives kids the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs, and violence.
The D.A.R.E. curriculum is designed to be taught by law enforcement officers whose training and experience provides them with the knowledge and insight to best address the topic with kids.
