College Scholarships

Many nonprofit organizations and for-profit companies offer college scholarships to service members and their spouses and children. Each scholarship has its own eligibility requirements and award amount. The funds from scholarships do not require repayment.

Websites ending in .org typically represent nonprofits such as foundations; philanthropic and cultural institutions; religious, civic, arts, social and fraternal organizations; health and legal services; clubs; and community volunteer groups. Use all scholarship search engines only after reviewing their terms of agreement.

President Donald J. Trump signed into law the Legion Act on 30 July, 2019, opening up membership (and scholarships) to any of the 6 million living veterans who served during so-called peacetime eras.

8. DOD STEM Opportunities

• Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship Program

  • Summer research internships ranging from 8 to 12 weeks

5. Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) – Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)

·         Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program

·         An opportunity to receive a full scholarship and be gainfully employed upon degree completion. Students pursuing degrees related engineering, science, mathematics, architecture, oceanography and operations research are encouraged to apply.  Creates a highly skilled Department of Defense (DoD) STEM workforce that competes with the dynamic trends in technology and innovation to protect national security.

·         National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship

·         For those pursuing a doctoral degree in a STEM discipline, the NDSEG Fellowship confers high honors upon its recipients and allows students to attend the U.S. institution of their choice to pursue a doctoral degree in a supported STEM discipline. NDSEG Fellowships last for three years and pay for full tuition and all mandatory fees, plus a monthly stipend and up to $1,000 a year in medical insurance (this excludes dental and vision insurance).
