There is no admission charge to museum exhibits. Occasionally, the museum charges admission to special temporary exhibits.

Unique artifacts on display at the Tennessee State Museum include a musket that belonged to Daniel Boone; the jawbone of a mastodon, estimated to be 15,000 years old; World War I hero Alvin C. York’s Medal of Honor; Roots author Alex Haley's Pulitzer Prize certificate; a rare 13-star United States flag with an exhibit on the role of Tennesseans in the Revolutionary War; Pre-Columbian Native American statuary; and the hat that Andrew Jackson wore at his 1829 inauguration.
