TBI's K9 Agents

Diesel was born on May 3, 2018. Diesel was raised as a 'Puppies Behind Bars' K9 at a federal prison in Otisville, New York. Diesel was selected by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) to attend Accelerant Detection Training during the summer and fall of 2019.

Diesel met his partner, TBI Special Agent Justin Ramsey, in October of 2019. Together, they trained for six weeks at the ATF National Canine Division in Front Royal, VA. During the course of the training, Diesel was certified as an Accelerant Detection Canine by ATF chemists after passing the nationally recognized Odor Recognition (ORT) and six other tested areas.

He is stationed out of the Johnson City, TN office, and responds to fire scenes in 21 counties in East Tennessee.

Diesel spends his off time with his family and best friend Duck, a female border collie. Diesel enjoys running and playing on his family's farm.

K9 Millie was born on June 5, 2019. Millie was raised in Georgia as a part of the Guide Dog Foundation.  She was acquired in 2020 by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms (ATF) and began approximately six-weeks of training
as an Accelerant Detection Canine in Front Royal, Virginia. 

Millie met her partner, TBI Special Agent Fire Investigator Ryan Shanklin, in November 2020, and the two began training as a team. On December 11, 2020, she officially became a graduate of the the ATF’s Accelerant Detection Canine Class. 

Millie is stationed out of the TBI Field Office in Jackson, TN. In addition to responding to fire scenes in West Tennessee, she’s also assigned to the ATF’s National Response Team and can be deployed anywhere inthe United States if needed.

When Millie isn't working, she enjoys playing fetch, swimming, and hanging out with K9 Wrigley, who retired from the TBI in October 2020.

K9 Honey was born on July 13, 2019, and was raised as part of the ‘Puppies Behind Bars’ program. In 2020, Honey was selected by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to begin training as an Accelerant Detection Canine in Front Royal, Virginia.

In November 2020, Honey was paired with TBI Special Agent Jeff Moseley. Honey trained with her partner for several weeks at the ATF Canine Training Center before graduating in December 2020. 

Honey is assigned to Middle Tennessee and is based out of TBI Headquarters in Nashville.

When Honey isn’t on duty, she enjoys lounging on her family’s couch and playing with her best friend Johnny, a chocolate lab.

Scooter is a five-year-old Yellow Labrador Retriever.

She was born in Mexico and was selected into the Puppies Behind Bars program at a young age where she received her obedience training and preparation to become a bomb-sniffing dog at Edna Mahan Correctional Facility in New Jersey.

After Scooter’s completion, she was selected by the ATF to become an Accelerant Detection Canine and traveled to Front Royal, Virginia to begin her intensive training to become a very powerful tool in the law enforcement community.

Scooter underwent 12 weeks of training that included odor recognition, vehicle searches and open field searches. She is a food-reward canine and loves to work. She gets very excited when she is on a scene and is very good at what she does. She has solved some very complex cases that has led to convictions at the state and local levels.

When Scooter isn't working, she enjoys playing ball and being part of the family.

Wrigley was born on May 6, 2012, in Georgia, and is a black Labrador Retriever who, as a puppy, trained to become a Guide Dog for the blind. When that proved not to be his calling, he joined the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives in 2013. At a year old, he began training to become an Accelerant Detection Canine in Front Royal, VA.

In March of 2014, Wrigley met his partner, Ryan Shanklin. Together they have been to more than 200 fire scenes. Wrigley is a valuable asset in the detection of accelerants at Arson fires throughout Tennessee. Wrigley is also a member of the ATF's National Response Team (NRT) and has been deployed to Mississippi, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, and Kentucky.

On Wrigley's time off, he stays with his handler and his family, enjoying playing fetch and other activities. Wrigley also loves to swim every chance he gets, especially while on vacation at the beach with his family.

Zeus is the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's only Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) Canine. He is a two-year-old Yellow Labrador Retriever trained to detect the odor from chemicals consistent across all electronic storage devices, including cell phones, USB drives, and MicroSD cards.

Because these devices can be so small, yet hold so much electronic data, Zeus is an invaluable member of our team in helping locate devices that contain evidence of a crime. Zeus is available to law enforcement agencies across the State of Tennessee with a primary focus on cases involving Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC).

When not utilizing his scent detection capabilities, Zeus serves as a comfort companion to both law enforcement officers and the public, such as child victims.
